6th Grade Families- Important Information
Dear Incoming 6th Grade Students and Families,
I wanted to reach out to you and remind you of some important upcoming dates as well as share some important information. Please see the information below and if you have any questions or need any further information, please contact the main office.
OPEN HOUSES:
We will have Open Houses for 6th grade students and transfer students on:
Tuesday, August 25th from 9 am until 11 am
Monday, August 30th from 9 am until 11 am
For the Open Houses we will have student volunteers as well as staff on hand to help answer questions, work on lockers, and tour the building during the 2-hour period. The Open House is informal and students and their families can come and go as they please. The goal is to ease any anxiety about the transition that students (and parents) may have.
**Please note that we will be giving out Chromebooks to Students during our Open Houses. Students will not be allowed to get a Chromebook until their families have completed the InfoSnap Portal process.
SCHEDULES:
We have been working hard on the schedules for all BRMS students. Our goal is to open the Power School Portal on Monday, August 24th so that all students can view their schedules on that date. Since 6th grade is the first time that students will be utilizing Power School for their schedules and grades, we will be mailing or emailing out log on information to 6th grade families. We hope to be able to mail this information to 6th grade students and their families by August 19th so that it is received before August 24th. Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide any schedules prior to that date.
GUIDANCE COUNSELORS:
If there is a question or a concern about your student’s academic or social/emotional well being please reach out to the appropriate guidance counselor listed below:
Letters A-K: Ms. Patterson (dpatterson@bordentown.k12.nj.us)
Letters L-Z: Mr. McQuarrie (mmcquarrie@bordentown.k12.nj.us)
SUMMER READING:
BRMS has a Summer Reading program that we expect all of our students will participate in. There is a tremendous amount of choice in our project and we really are just looking for our students to learn to love reading and the value that it has on their future. All of the information can be accessed at the link below. As always, please reach out if you have any questions. We appreciate your support with this program.
IMMUNIZATIONS:
Please see the letter below concerning mandatory 6th grade immunizations.
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Please be advised that regulations established by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (N.J.A.C. 8:57-4.1 to 8:57-4.24) MANDATE the following vaccines for all students born on or after January 1, 1997 who are 11 years old.
One dose of the Tdap vaccine (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Acellular Pertussis) given no earlier than the 10th birthday.
One dose of a meningococcal-containing vaccine, such as medically preferred meningococcal conjugate vaccine. Given no earlier than the 10th birthday.
Please schedule an appointment with your child’s physician as soon as possible, close to their 11th birthday and return the completed bottom of this notice to school within 2 weeks of their 11th birthday. If your child has already received the above immunizations, please provide documentation to the school nurse as soon as possible. If this required paperwork is not submitted to the school nurse, your child could be excluded from attending school.
If your child is uninsured or if your insurance does not cover immunizations, please let me know and I will help to arrange an appointment for them to receive free immunizations with the Burlington County Health Department.
Sincerely,
Laura Mathews BSN, RN, CSN-NJ
