PHYSICAL EDUCATION COURSE OUTLINE
GOAL:
Quality Physical Education programs are the foundation of a comprehensive school activity program. It is an academic subject that uses a planned, sequential program curriculum and instruction, based state and/or national physical education standards, which results in all students, including those with disabilities, developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to adopt and maintain a physically active lifestyle.
CLASSROOM ATMOSPHERE:
The class will have cooperative group and individual activities. Students will engage in a variety of activities in a safe environment. Sportsmanship and participation will be stressed. Any student that is engaging in unsafe behavior will be removed from the activity immediately. Inappropriate behavior and lack of being prepared will result in parental contact and grade reduction.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS:
All students are encouraged to bring a change of clothes each day for class. (sneakers, t-shirts, shorts or sweatpants, no button or zippers). Students will not be permitted to participate in class activity if they do not have sneakers. Crocks, boots, dress shoes, etc., are not acceptable. The school dress code applies to this class. Please do not bring valuables to gym class. It is the student’s responsibility to secure all valuables in their hall lockers before coming to gym. If a student wishes to lock their possessions in the locker room, they may bring in a lock and secure their items for that period only. Locks must be removed at the end of the period.
CLASS PROCEDURE:
-Students are to report directly to the locker rooms and get changed for class.
-Students are to remove dangling jewelry for safety reasons and secure it in their locker.
-Students are to remain in the gym after changing until the bell rings for change of class.
- No cell phones are allowed to be out in the locker room under any circumstances in accordance with school rules. If a cell phone is out, it will be given to the front office in accordance with school policy.
STUDENT EVALUATION:
Grades will be based on participation and preparedness for class. The students grade will be based on accumulating points for each aspect. Student preparation includes wearing sneakers. If a student does not have sneakers, they will receive a "0" for preparedness as well as a "0" for participation. Active participation includes engaging in class activities while following class and game rules as well as exhibiting good sportsmanship.
