Grade 8 Music

8th graders will spend their time learning the basics of guitar.  They will learn to pluck melodies as well as basic chords so they can play along to their favorite pop tunes!  Students will learn about the wide variety of guitar styles and techniques through the guitarist of the week.  Every week, students will study a new guitarist, each one representing a different musical style (everything from flamenco to heavy metal!).  We end our quarter with a "Cover a Song" project in which students pick a song of their choice to cover on guitar and perform for the class in small groups.  It is my hope that leaving this class, students feel comfortable picking out basic melodies and chords on the guitar and have a renewed appreciation for this versatile instrument!
