Wingman Peer Mediation

Wingman is BRMS’s Peer Mediation Program! We transitioned our Wingman program to a Peer Mediation program during the 2023-2024 school year with the goal of helping our students improve their conflict resolution skills, while emphasizing the need to have face to face conversations with the help of supportive peers.

A group of select student leaders, who are our current 7th and 8th graders, were chosen by BRMS staff and trained last fall by members of The College of New Jersey's Dispute Resolution Services. After successfully completing their training at TCNJ, students did numerous mock mediations at BRMS to be ready to help their classmates facilitate conflict. At the end of the 2024-2025 school year, BRMS staff will select a few more students to be trained as peer mediators.

Peer mediations are only successful if all parties involved truly want to work through a conflict or issue. BRMS administration and BRMS counselors will let students know if they feel a situation could benefit from having a mediation. If all parties involved agree to do a mediation, BRMS trained students will sit down and hold a peer mediation during the school day when an appropriate time allows.
